Opening OCAS GET-LAB test centre

OCAS announces the opening of OCAS GET-LAB Test Centre in Zelzate – dedicated to advancing the development and use of materials for next-generation technologies for industrial transformation and global energy transition, including hydrogen systems, CO₂ transport, CO₂ storage, and other technologies.

OCAS is a part of FINOCAS, a joint venture between ArcelorMittal Belgium and the Flemish Government. The opening of GET-LAB demonstrates the strategic importance of this unique public-private partnership that contributes to building critical infrastructure for testing and validating technologies that support regional and European climate goals.

The facility brings together state-of-the-art equipment in a dedicated building developed to the highest safety standards, enabling testing under specific industry-relevant conditions. The new centre focuses on evaluating material behaviour for transport and storage applications under high gas pressure, following the latest international guidelines. The ability to generate such experimental data will enable OCAS to support the development and qualification of materials and systems for safe and reliable operation in hydrogen and CO₂ applications – contributing to the reliability and performance of the next-generation energy and industrial infrastructure.

The centre provides a neutral, flexible platform that supports broader industrial efforts — including those of OCAS’s key stakeholders — to explore diverse pathways toward CO₂ reduction and hydrogen deployment. It will support internal development and enable future collaboration with industry and research partners.

As part of a broader climate strategy that includes hydrogen, carbon capture- utilization-storage (CCUS) and circular metallurgy, GET-LAB will support European climate goals and the global energy transition through solutions grounded in industrial feasibility.
