First electric truck for steel coil transportation at ArcelorMittal Ghent

To further emphasize and put into practice their focus on sustainability, ArcelorMittal Gent sought a solution to transport low carbon-emissions steel in an environmentally friendly way. As a result, the XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel with Magnelis® coating will now be shipped to the
customer, KS Service Center in Moerdijk, using electric trucks. The first transportation of XCarb® material with an electric truck from ArcelorMittal Gent took place on October 23.

The partner involved in this initiative is DFDS in Gent. DFDS recently took a significant step towards electromobility by acquiring 127 e-trucks, with 15 of them serving DFDS Gent. This move by DFDS emphasizes their commitment to sustainability within the organization.

KS Service Center is dedicated to sustainability and reducing CO2 emissions. For this reason, KS Service
Center orders the XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel with Magnelis® coating from
ArcelorMittal Gent. This steel will be used in the supply chain to provide customers with products with a lower carbon footprint. These can be used in the solar industry, interior design, furniture manufacturing, machinery production, tool fabrication, and more.

This milestone is the result of a successful collaboration between the sales organization of ArcelorMittal Flat Products Europe and the transportation department of ArcelorMittal Gent. Working closely with the transport company DFDS and the customer KS Service Center, this first transport from Ghent to Moerdijk, The Netherlands, was carried out using an electric truck.
