After his summer job, Kevin joined us as a maintenance employee. He took interesting training courses, learned a lot from colleagues and today he is a foreman.
"You learn fastest when you are in the middle of the action."
With a bachelor's degree under his belt and a passion for technology, Kevin consciously chose a job in the field. After completing his studies in Design and Production Technology, he started working as a mechanic in the hot strip mill. At the same time, he also followed a training program to become a shift supervisor.
“My parents also work at ArcelorMittal,” says Kevin. “So I knew I would have opportunities here. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree a few years ago and started as a repair mechanic in the hot rolling mill, practical experience taught me more than anything else. As a starter, you can also take theoretical training courses here, but I didn't do that so much because I already had a solid foundation. Experienced colleagues who share their knowledge are worth their weight in gold. That's what I want to do as a foreman: focus on sharing knowledge and ensuring cooperation within my team."
Kevin's dedication did not go unnoticed. He was given opportunities to advance and is now working as a foreman. "I learn something new every day. ArcelorMittal is a huge company, so I certainly don't know everything yet. I constantly face new challenges."
Becoming a foreman was a logical next step for Kevin, but certainly not his last: "After foreman, I can become a preparation technician, then a Team leader. If I want to take further steps, I can. There are endless possibilities here."
Growing in a future-proof environment
"Not everyone considers becoming a mechanic after completing a bachelor's degree, but for me personally, this was more interesting than starting as an office worker," Kevin continues. "You learn fastest when you're in the thick of things. I know the equipment and the people, which was the ideal basis for becoming a foreman."
Besides the content of his job and the tremendous growth opportunities, Kevin also appreciates the company's sustainable ambitions. "We make smarter steels that have a positive impact on people and the planet. With innovative processes, we want to use less energy, emit less carbon and reduce costs. Thus, we make steel that is cleaner, stronger and reusable. Think of applications in electric cars, windmills and solar panels. That gives my work extra meaning," Kevin concludes.
Graduated and looking for a 'future proof' job with growth opportunities? At ArcelorMittal you get the space to grow, learn and make an impact. Just like Kevin.
