By the time a steel coil reaches the rewinding line, it has already traveled a long way through the factory. Yet the work isn’t done yet. In this department, the steel receives its final finishing touches before it’s shipped to the customer. And that’s exactly where Jasper plays an important role.
As an operator on the rewinding line, he ensures that every steel coil is properly processed, inspected, and prepared for shipment. "For outsiders, it's sometimes hard to imagine just how much technology goes into steel production," says Jasper; he believes that's one of the biggest misconceptions about his job. Modern facilities take over a lot of the work, but that actually makes the operator's role even more important. You have to understand the processes, recognize problems , and be able to intervene quickly when necessary.

Every day brings new situations, and you’re constantly learning. “Here, you learn much more than just about your own system,” says Jasper. “The more experience you gain, the better you understand how everything is connected.”
