ArcelorMittal Belgium and KS Service Center are switching to electric trucks for all steel deliveries between the sites in Ghent and Liège and KS Service Center in Moerdijk. With this move, both companies are taking a new step toward making their value chain more sustainable and reducing the CO₂ emissions from their transportation operations.
Sustainability doesn’t stop at the factory gate. In addition to making steel production more sustainable, ArcelorMittal Belgium and KS Service Center are also examining the impact of transportation. That’s why all deliveries of steel products between Ghent and Moerdijk will now be made using electric trucks.
On an annual basis, this amounts to approximately 1,250 shipments, resulting in an estimated reduction of 125 metric tons of CO₂ compared to conventional freight transport. The electric transport is handled by logistics partners Katoen Natie and Depaire.
This initiative aligns with the ambition of both ArcelorMittal Belgium and KS Service Center to gradually reduce CO₂ emissions across their entire value chain. By making transportation more sustainable as well, both companies are reducing the environmental footprint of their products without compromising delivery reliability.
What began as a pilot project for the delivery of low-carbon XCarb® steel evolved into a systematic effort to make all shipments between the two partners more sustainable. The initiative demonstrates how collaboration within the value chain can help reduce CO₂ emissions, from production to delivery.
